Monday, December 30th: The First Modern Hebrew City

Explore the ancient port city of Jaffa. For more than 5,000 years this magical port city, brimming with life, color, and excitement, served as the setting for the first leg of the journey for the sailors, pilgrims and adventurers who “washed upon the shores” of the Holy Land. Continue to the Carmel or Levinsky Market for a delicious lunch of spices, fruits and veggies, and local delicacies.

Walk along Rothschild Blvd, the trendy main avenue of Tel Aviv. As you admire the scenery around you, stop at Independence Hall, where the new state was declared in 1948 and the dream of millions of Jews across the world came true. At this place, David Ben Gurion decided upon the Menorah as the National Emblem of Israel, connecting this modern day miracle of the establishment of the State of Israel, to the bravery and dedication that the Maccabees had shown in their plight to rekindle the Menorah during the Hasmonean rebellion.
